Home build using Kebony hardwood decking
When considering a decking for your garden there are too many decking products available. Kebony wood make this choice a simple one. 30 warranty, smooth surface, beautifully brown which silvers to a natural grey…what’s not to like?
Fixed with the well established Eb-Ty side fixed system, stainless steel screws make for a faster than normal decking install. Perfect for an advanced DIY-er with the right tools of course…Mr Holmes from Birmingham was delighted with this self build decking terrace.
The self builder used Kebony clear radiata pine decking with a domed face & side groove profile. Kebony is a revolutionary external timber product that takes sustain-ably grown softwood and treats it to give it durability class 1 status. As well as coming with a 30 year guarantee against rot, because of its stability Kebony is one of a select few species that we recommend to fit with hidden clips.
The decking has been installed with Simpson Strongtie’s Eb-Ty clip fixing system so there are no screws through the face’s of the decking boards. These decking clips automatically give the required spacing between boards and avoid the need to pre-drill through the face of the boards. This gives the decking a nice clean finish and speeds up installation time.
The main area of the decking is raised above the garden so Mr Holmes ordered bespoke machined Kebony clear radiata pine handrails & spindles matched with Sapele hardwood posts. Kebony clear has minimal knots, machines to a really smooth finish and the kebonization treatment goes all the way through the board so no need to treat any exposed ends. 42mm is the maximum thickness of kebony so we supplied sapele hardwood for the posts.
To finish the steps up to the decking, stringers were made and braced with lengths of 50×150 kebony beams.
Brooks have the largest collection of timbers for most application and supply small domestic projects and commercial projects with tens of thousands of square metres.
