This small deck are was built over a concrete block pit containing all the pump and filter equipment for a large Koi pond. The owner needed to gain access to the complete area, to service the equipment on a very regular basis. He needed to be able to lift the whole deck, or just certain areas, all by himself. Our solution was to split the deck into bays, hinge the panels along the handrail edges, (which would then be secured vertically with a clip). The other two panels are “lift out”, all done with flush fitting handles.
The sub frame was built enabling certain joists to be simply lifted out of the way if necessary. Small deck ? – Yes, but it had its challenges !
Have you examples of decks that required unusual access ?
