Grad Kebony decking in Churt Surrey
Grad Kebony decking in Churt, Surrey
Kebony smooth decking stars in this sensational garden
This family home, in an ‘Arts & Crafts’ style, sits in a beautiful wrap around plot in the Surrey countryside. The garden is a blank canvas and will be designed to cater entirely to the tastes of our clients. The garden will draw inspiration from Japan and be influenced by its locality. It will be a stunning outdoor space for the family to relax and entertain in.
The clients would like a garden that celebrates Japanese garden style whilst also using native and near native UK plants. This will ensure the garden compliments the house and the surrounding countryside. The garden should allow for two seating terraces and be a place to entertain and relax in. The clients family live in London and so this will also be their ‘country’ get away. There should be an area to practise yoga and an area to enjoy a BBQ with friends. Seating areas should allow for around 10 family and guests. The garden should maximise the space and ensure stunning vistas from within the property including the use of outdoor lighting. The design should ensure increased privacy from neighbouring properties using trees to provide a natural screen.

Designing a garden with sustainable decking
The design will create a beautiful and calming space for relaxing and spending time with family and friends.
The garden will have at least 2 different areas for dining and relaxing. These will be linked by hard landscaping using carefully chosen materials. Limestone paving, clay pavers and Grad System decking as well as gravel and standing stones chosen specifically for the design. The planting scheme will be architectural, green and lush and include pops of seasonal colour. Our clients like Japanese style gardens and so the planting palette will reflect both Japanese and UK styles. Specimen topiary will be used to create focal points that are viewed from within the house and terraced areas. Careful consideration will be taken to the flow around the garden. The way that you move through the space as well as how the eye is drawn around it.
It is important that the planting scheme provides year round structure in the garden with seasonal interest. Planting will also be used to frame views as screened areas for additional privacy where neighbouring properties overlook the garden. The planting should be low maintenance, but the family will ensure they have a regular gardener as they will not always be in the country. The garden will incorporate an irrigation system that will ensure the plants to flourish. The existing levels in the garden will be used to create a flow around the space whilst minimising the volume of earthworks required. Consideration will also be taken when designing to allow for utility areas (for 3 x bins) to be kept from view whilst on the decking area, although they will also be easily accessed.
Grad System Decking
The designer chose Grad for the decking as this area will be used for yoga as well as seating / relaxing. The Grad is easy to install, and it is also has easy access drainage inspection chambers underneath and repair.
