Transforming a Garden with Trex

Transforming a Garden with Trex

It’s fair to say this garden was in desperate need of a makeover by a professional. Having had an extension and a porcelain patio to step onto the rest of the garden now needed seeing too. Feast your eyes on what we started with…

The clients brief was simple. I want the aircraft hangar gone, everything needs to be low maintenance and contemporary to reflect the house; a space to sit and relax in the sun would be amazing. They were also keen to get plants growing up and over things… perhaps a pergola. Other than that, a small shed for storage.

Karl put together a garden design that met all their wants and needs. Removing the massive storage unit gave back over half of the garden space. This left behind a concrete pad which made a perfect base to install the no maintenance Trex composite decking. Karl is a TrexPro making this Trex Deck warrantied for 25 years. Following the low maintenance theme Karl chose to use Namgrass artificial lawn around the decking. This grass even has a 10mm foam layer underneath to make it really comfy under foot.

How to make a contemporary pergola

Over the decking Karl also designed a traditional style pergola painted grey to work with the Foggy Wharf Trex. This makes the perfect structure to get some plants growing up it too. The pergola posts go through the decking so Karl thought it would be a good idea to install some LED lights to illuminate the pergola and plants that will eventually grow around it.

Using the same colour paint as the pergola Karl also made some raised rail sleeper planters. These planters are key to breaking up the space between the patio and fake lawn. There is also a level change here so helps with the transition from one area to the next. These are filled with some fantastic colours and smells to be enjoyed all year around.
