Making a minimum maintenance garden

As per your usual a typical new build garden. This space was mainly grass with a small flagstone paving area. The garden also has a raised rail sleeper planter and path. Very basic but the grass needs regular cutting and these clients wanted to enjoy their garden with little to no maintenance if possible. Well it is possible.

The garden naturally sloped away from the house we measured the difference in elevation at approximately 500mm. Karl chose to level the garden by splitting it into 3 stepped areas each 170mm. The flagstone patio can stay the same and that makes up the first step. We can remove the existing lawn and replace it with a high quality fake lawn; we chose Namgrass from Country Supplies. This makes the second stepped area. For the 3^rd and final stepped area Karl designed the step to tie in a new composite deck.

How to make your garden look contemporary

A simple yet effective way to bring the natural timber elements together like the fence and rail sleepers. Paint them all the same colour. Karl chose a grey colour to bring space together and make it a bit more contemporary. Using grey also helps makes all the other colours in your garden pop.

Making a minimum maintenance garden with composite decking

Clearly the main feature of this garden is the deck. Karl showed the clients a range of colours and they decided on Trex composite decking from the Transcend range. Using Gravel Path for most of the decking followed by a contrasting frame in the Island Mist colour. Choosing Trex was the perfect choice for this garden.
