Decking design brief

The design brief for this small garden landscaping project was quite simple. “We currently don’t have anywhere to sit and not a lot, if anything, to look at. The Garden room is perfectly placed and awkward to get to. We’d like flowers, somewhere to sit, a decking terrace and whatever else you think we may need.”

Professional landscaping in a small garden

The garden was 55 sq. m with a 300mm change in elevation from top to bottom. The garden was L shaped to a fashion. This shape allowed the clients to situate a garden room without taking up any of the “normal” garden space.

We replaced two of the fences and included lighting, irrigation, hundreds of plants, and a simple stepping arrangement to take you to the lower millboard deck seating area.

A custom design pergola

Nature itself guided us through the design of this organic pergola. The twisting, turning and random curving stems of a climbing rose, minus the thorns of course. Manufactured from steel and formed to reflect the wild nature of a climbing rose. Coloured to work with the light green scheme of the garden…

Karl said, “Being let loose to actually design is what I love. The fabricator thought I was mad when I manufactured the former to bend the steel bars. The pergola works exactly as I had envisaged.”

The small garden paving

Using a large paving unit reduces the joint lines and created a less cluttered feel to the garden space. London Stone Harvest paving units were the choice for this patio; a rich cream jointing by Fugabella worked well with the paving.
