How do I oil my hardwood decking terrace
This has to be one of the most common questions asked directly to the team at Owatrol. There are many different timber species which need different treatment oils. Some Owatrol oils are in fact water based whilst others are oil based.
We recently received a cry for help from a client who had the following problem (taken from their email)
“Query: Hi, we are in the process of installing a new Yellow Balau hardwood deck, due to the recent wet weather in the UK the un-treated deck has gone slightly grey as it’s dried out from a few days of heavy rain.
Can you advise me, as it’s only minor weathering shall I just apply DEKS OLJE D1 or will I need to clean with Net-trol first?
I have a 45m2 deck, how much DEKS OLJE D1 do you think I will need?
What is your stock availability like? Delivery times?
How long will the deck need to dry out before application, will it require a number of days of dry weather after application? We couldn’t have chosen a worse time to install it 🙁

Decking oil advice from a UK supplier
It is always best to treat the timber first to make sure the surface will allow the oils to penetrate right into the timber. Oil is always best in the timber and not on it.
Once cleaned with Net-Trol you should be able to apply the D1 oil. It is a saturating oil and best to allow the oil to fully soak in. You may need more than one application. You may need between 1 and 4 litres per sq m if the timber is new and not oiled before. For maintenance its between 8 and 10 sq m per litre.

Two to three days is best for dry weather and you want at lest 24 hours of dry once the saturating oil has been applied.
We gave the above advice required to rejuvenate the deck and so I wanted to share the response with everyone. as it is always pleasing to see the results and delight of clients.
